Meet Christine Castramados, a patron experience associate at the Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) and a proud member of AFSCME Colorado.

She’s always loved libraries, even when she was working as a nurse. In a recent interview with KDVR, Castramados explained that when she changed careers, she chose to pursue working at the library because she wanted to continue helping her community.

She highlighted some of the wonderful services that library workers offer for residents in Jefferson County, including help with tax preparation, programs for children and teens, and free public WiFi.

“My favorite part of the day is when I do story time,” Castramados said. “I love helping kids get ready to read.”

As an AFSCME member, Castramados and her colleagues now have a seat at the table with management. She encouraged library workers to organize and form their own unions.

“I would tell other library workers that when you’re in a union, your job is protected, you have security, and your voice matters,” she explained.

Workers in Colorado are turning to AFSCME to build power. We are the city, county, cultural, university, and school workers who keep our communities running, safe, and strong.
