Happy Holidays from AFSCME Colorado
AFSCME Colorado family,
Happy holidays from AFSCME Colorado!
2026 was a landmark year for AFSCME Colorado. AFSCME members organized, fought, and won countless improvements for the lives of public service workers all across the state. In a year of turmoil and uncertainty, we made our presence known and put our union on the map.
We won new contracts for hundreds of workers in Pueblo, Lake County, Cherry Creek School District, and first contracts for workers in Arapahoe County, who were among the first to organize a union under the County Collective Bargaining Act. Workers at the Denver Art Museum and Jefferson County Public Library continued to negotiate their first contracts and have already used their collective voice to secure wins at the table. All these contracts include protections on the job, benefit improvements, and raises that make life easier for our workers and improve public services.
Meanwhile, we built our strength as a union by training hundreds of new stewards, electing and training new officers at locals across the state, and getting educated on what it means to be a union leader. These trainings will continue in the new year, and if you’re interested in learning more about how to make your union stronger, we encourage you to sign up.
Of course, as always, we kept organizing new workers. Workers in the City of Denver prepared for the establishment of collective bargaining in 2026 by fighting back against layoffs, and by working alongside city councilmembers to pass a city ordinance that delivers a strong foundation for workers to gain union representation in the new year. Then, workers at Boulder Public Library District announced their union campaign and have since continued to fight for their rights to a union at their workplace.
Next year, we’ll build on all this progress through new trainings, organizing campaigns, and winning new contracts. Stay in the loop by visiting www.AFSCMEColorado.org for the latest updates, resources, and to sign up for our email newsletter. Let’s keep the momentum going into 2026 and make it yet another landmark year for our union.
